Our local newspapers were, at one time, accurate and reliable sources of information and reasonable editorial content. In the last few years, however, this tradition appears to have been reversed. In case you haven't noticed, there are some newspapers in Grand Junction and locales throughout the Western Slope that are not exactly fair and objective. The Board of Directors of the WSCA is calling on all Conservative Patriots to become the "checks and balances" on our local newspapers given that their editors and staffs seem incapable of doing so themselves.

Save the Date! Please join WSCA for our monthly meeting , Feb. 2, 2012 at the Grand Junction City Hall auditorium at 6:30 for
Americans for Prosperity and
Jeff Crank, radio talk show host and director of Colorado AFP will be presenting this new effort by AFP to draw attention to the stifling regulations that are denying residents of Colorado and all Americans the prosperity that energy development can bring.

Please call the offices of Colorado Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennet and encourage them to move the numerous jobs bills that have been passed in the House of Representatives through the Senate. Remind them that the Western Colorado economy needs energy development and an effective jobs program.
Remember to show your appreciation for the good work of our local, state, and national representatives from the Western Slope who are doing a good job of advancing the Conservative Cause.

Activist Alert for Tea Party and Liberty Groups:
As a leading Tea Party Group in western Colorado, the Western Slope Conservative Alliance is sounding the alarm to our friends in the Tea Party and other Liberty groups across the state. Be on the watch for a stealth campaign being organized by radical environmentalist designed to scare cities and counties into enacting new oil and gas restrictions. These radical environmental organizations are trying to completely shut down the energy industry in Colorado by layering additional regulations on top of the highly punitive oil and gas restrictions put into effect by Governor Bill Ritter a few short years ago.
Last week, our wonderful attorney general,
John Suthers--
the same conservative who is leading the fight to overturn Obamacare -- sent an official letter to Arapahoe and El Paso Counties and told them their job-killing regulations are illegal.
As members of the Liberty groups from communities that have been front and center in oil and gas development for generations, we are asking you to reach out to your local and state officials and representatives and send a clear message.
- Tell them not to be swayed by the scare tactics of environmental extremists.
- Tell them Colorado already has the toughest oil and gas limitations at the state level anywhere in the country.
- Tell them that liberals fight domestic energy production (remember the Keystone Pipeline?), not conservatives.
- Tell them that Bill Ritter got run out of office in part for fighting responsible energy development, and so will they if they do the same thing.

Guest Commentary: A tale of two Gov. Hickenloopers
POSTED: 01/03/2012 01:00:00 AM MST
UPDATED: 01/03/2012 06:42:18 AM MST
By State Rep. Laura Bradford and State Rep. Ray Scott
Gov. John Hickenlooper recently hailed the responsible development of natural gas and oil on Colorado's Eastern Plains. This is the same Gov. Hickenlooper who has been AWOL as western Colorado continues to suffer under state and federal regulations that have killed responsible natural gas development that should be happening there, too.
Why the governor chose to praise this mighty economic development engine in one part of our state while ignoring another, we don't know.
It's not as if we haven't asked Gov. Hickenlooper directly. It's not as if he hasn't seen how badly western Colorado needs the jobs and investment provided by the responsible development of our traditional energy resources. It's not as if he doesn't know that his leadership would actually spur development and encourage investment, and yet he continues to ignore the needs of western Colorado.
We appreciate the fact that he has visited our communities and that he has seen firsthand the devastation that burdensome regulations and power-hungry bureaucrats can have on working families. He has seen the empty shops and warehouses. He has seen how hard our schools have been hit. He has seen the suffering of tens of thousands of Coloradans. We also know that he hasn't done one thing about it.
Gov. Hickenlooper hasn't demonstrated the leadership necessary to get bureaucrats in Denver and Washington, D.C., to recognize that we need jobs and economic security in western Colorado too.
Other states have shown through their own leadership that they can attract the investment and careers that responsible resource development drives. Utah, North Dakota and Wyoming are but three examples where our friends in the West are realizing the value of responsibly developing their natural resources. The difference is that, through their elected leaders, from governors to state legislators, these states have managed to pair the benefits of job creation and greater economic security with responsible environmental stewardship.
In western Colorado, burdensome and unnecessary regulations and bureaucratic red tape are holding up investments by the energy industry. During a recent Energy Summit in Grand Junction hosted by House Republicans, industry leaders talked openly and specifically about the level of investment that would come to western Colorado and the jobs that would be created if the roadblocks to responsible development were set aside. Even more troubling is that the resources previously set aside as the Naval Oil Shale Reserve, now known as the Roan Plateau, remain untapped and mired in a federal bureaucratic black hole.
Gov. Hickenlooper, do you even care that western Colorado is suffering because of your lack of leadership?
Instead of hiding behind federal bureaucrats, Gov. Hickenlooper should be making good on his campaign promise to bring economic investment to all of Colorado, not just those areas within an hour drive of Denver.
We've seen these types of Denver governors before. They all seem to forget that the Western Slope exists for anything but skiing or fly fishing with their rich Denver buddies.
Gov. Hickenlooper, why won't you use your position as Colorado's top elected leader and do your part to bring jobs and investment back to western Colorado?
Gov. Hickenlooper, it's past time for you to be a different kind of governor than your predecessor. Don't insult our intelligence by praising natural gas development in eastern Colorado and pretend like that has anything to do with filling shops, careers and homes in western Colorado. Don't pretend that you can't be part of the solution. Be a leader for all of Colorado, not just Denver. Do your part to put our state at the forefront of responsible energy development and keep your promise to western Colorado.
State Rep. Laura Bradford is a Republican from Colbran and Rep. Ray Scott is a Republican from Grand Junction.

Thank you for a teriffic turnout at...
"A Politically Incorrect Evening with The Inconvenient Sunny Roseman"
We had well over 120 people in attendance (standing room only). It was an fun and entertaining way to start what is going to be a very busy and challenging year. The audience was unified in their enjoyment of Sunny Roseman and his presentation about "Global Warming Hysteria and Media Bias." Thanks to all who attended this first meeting of 2012, a year during which unity among conservative-minded people will be critical.

Sunny Roseman started his career in the Radio and Television business back in the mid 70s. He is a trained Meteorologist that has worked at TV stations in Denver, Phoenix, Wichita, Oklahoma City, Greensboro and Hartford. He has also worked in the radio business as a morning drive host. His training is in the field of Climatology, or the study of climate change. Yes, it happens naturally, with or without man!
Sunny thinks “Global Warming” or “Climate Change” as they are trying to call it now, is the biggest bunch of crap in the history of mankind. That is why he calls it “The Church Of Global Warming.” People that believe in this nonsense follow it blindly without knowing anything about the subject.
While on TV one night, back in the summer of 2008, Sunny started ranting about Global Warming and the stupid polar bears. He is no longer on TV, “wonder why?” But 80% of the comments from the viewers were positive. Sunny’s instinct were right, the people are not stupid. We will not follow Al Gore blindly into submission.
With this in mind, Sunny started his radio commentary show in October of 2009 on KLZ Radio 560AM in Denver, Colorado. The show is rapidly gaining popularity and will be soon going nationwide.
Take advantage of this excellent opportunity to introduce your friends and neighbors to the world of Conservative humor and insight, and for a marvelous networking opportunity. The meeting will take place at the Grand Junction City Hall Auditorium at 6:30 sharp. You may want to arrive early to get a good seat.

Important information for all who intend to participate in the GOP caucuses:
For the past few years, the Colorado State GOP has been investing in new online technology designed to streamline the caucus and convention registration process. After extensive testing, including go-live tests in selected counties, the system is now ready for a statewide roll-out. Beginning January 3, 2012, Mesa County Republicans can visit www.caucus.cologop.org to preregister for the February 7, 2012 caucus. Although preregistration is optional, use of the system is encouraged since it will speed at-the-door check-in and keep registrants updated via e-mail. Click here to view the press release. The Mesa County Clerk and Recorder is awaiting approval of new precinct maps that align precinct boundaries with newly reapportioned State Senate and House districts. It is expected the new precincts may not be uploaded to the system until January 9, 2012. If you preregister before that date, the system will automatically send you an e-mail confirming your new precinct number and caucus location.

Scott Tipton Statement on Failure of Balanced Budget Amendment
Washington, D.C. –Congressman Scott Tipton (R-CO) issued the following statement after the House failed to pass H.J. Res. 2: The Balanced Budget Amendment.
“We saw 261 Republicans and Democrats unite today to say ‘enough is enough’ to runaway spending, and I proudly joined in support of the Balanced Budget Amendment, which unfortunately fell short of the 2/3 majority needed to pass. Hearing cheers and applause on the floor at its failing says a lot—sadly.
“However, while this common sense solution failed today, there is still a significant opportunity to seriously address our country’s spending problem. We must meet our existing obligations, fulfilling the promise to our seniors and military, while fulfilling our obligation to ensure that our children and grandchildren have the opportunity to achieve the American dream.”
