WSCA Meeting Minutes:
WSCA BOARD MEETING JANUARY 4, 2012
Meeting Place-Gary Bailey’s Home
Meeting was called to order at 4:45 p.m. by President, Gary Bailey. Board Members present were Gary Bailey, Doug Thompson, Karen Kulp, Marjorie Haun, Kevin McCarney, Garry White, Sandy Peeso and David Cox.
Gary B. informed the Board that the WSCA needs a new Register Agent for the State. Richard Schoenradt is our current Agent. Richard did pay the $50.00 to register WSCA for the 2012 year. We need to reimburse Richard $50.00 for that fee. There was a motion to make Sandy Peeso the new Register Agent and reimburse Richard $50.00. It was 2nd by Garry W. The motion passed.
January 5 Monthly Meeting: Advertisements for the meeting have been placed, both in print and radio. Sunny Roseman, who is associated with KEXO1230 AM, has put some ads on air himself. The Daily Sentinel published a small article about the meeting. David Cox confirmed he placed ads on KNZZ 1100 AM. All local television stations have been notified about the meeting. We will see what kind of turnout we have.
2012 Tea Party:
Garry W. informed the Board that he has reserved Lincoln Park from 9 to 5 on April 14.
Gary B. spoke with Jeff Crank, with Americans for Prosperity, about being a speaker at our Tea Party. Mr. Crank said he would attend. Because of AFP’s involvement, they will cover what insurance needs that are required by the City for the Park.
Marjorie is trying to contact Ted Nugent to be another guest speaker for the event. She will keep us informed on her progress.
Kevin Mc. said Seth Schaeffer has a band now and will contact him about performing at the Tea Party.
Marjorie brought up the possibility of putting ads in the Moab paper. She spoke with the publisher and reported that we can purchase ads for $28 per month. A discussion followed with Kevin Mc. bringing up the point that ads only work when they are on page 3. Marjorie will get more information from the publisher as to what $28 will buy.
The Board discussed that we need to inform other Tea Party groups on the Western Slope about our plans for our April Tea Party. We need to spread the word for a successful event.
Meeting was adjourned at 5:25 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Peeso
WSCA Secretary
WSCA END OF YEAR BOARD MEETING
Thursday, December 29, 2011
The meeting was called to order by President, Gary Bailey, at 6:35 pm. Board members present were Gary Bailey, Jeff Leany, Lois Dunn, Karen Kulp, Kevin McCarney, Brad Stieg, David Cox, Marjorie Haun, Kevin King, Garry White and Sandy Peeso.
Treasurers Report: Jeff reported we have about $3,100.00.
New Business:
A motion was made by Karen to have Sandy Peeso continue to be the Secretary for 2012. It was seconded by Lois. The motion was unanimously passed.
A motion was made by Lois to have Marjorie Haun become the Vice President. It was seconded by Jeff. The motion was unanimously passed.
Amending By-Laws: Article IV—Board of Directors 4.2—Numbers
A motion was made by Jeff and seconded by Kevin to delete from the By-Laws the positions being represented on the Board of Mesa County Republican Women and Mesa County Young Republican, and then add a position being represented by the Citizens for Liberty. The motion was unanimously passed.
2012 Monthly Meetings:
Lois made the observation that the meetings with the most in attendance were the ones with a representative from Heritage Foundation. It was discussed and Gary B. said he will use his contacts to invite speakers and set up some dates. She also told the group about the Pitkin Co. Republican website. She was impressed with how well it was done so that they are getting people to visit it. They are also able to get ‘big named’ speakers committed to come and speak at their events. She suggested we connect with them to bring big name speakers in for both organizations.
Jeff suggested if we succeed, we could charge for the event and use it as a fundraiser. We need to “Be Bold” and contact well known names to come to the Western Slope. Lois continued to brainstorm and suggested we contact authors who are on book tours to come to GJ. All board members agreed to this plan.
January – Sunny Roseman is confirmed.
February – Marjorie will contact Independence Institute’s, Jon Caldara, to be the speaker.
March – Open March is MCR County Assembly. The field of County Commission Candidates should be narrowed down so we can start our election forums.
April and May-Hold the Forums for the Candidates
April 14 – 2012 Tea Party in the Park
The Board will hold special meetings to set up and organize the Tea Party event. Gary B. suggested we connect with Americans for Prosperity and Jeff Crank for the Tea Party. By having the State AFP involved, it will help us cover the event with their insurance. He also suggested having Jeff C. be a speaker. Garry W. will contact the city about reserving the Park. We will meet Thursday, Jan. 5, 5:45 pm, before our Monthly Meeting to further discuss our plans.
June is the Primary. Meeting is open.
The Board discussed having several fund raisers in 2012. Jeff said Jim Gibson, who has the property on F Road, is eager to host an event for us. He is making improvements on the property to make it ‘event friendly’. The Board continued to expand on the fundraiser idea. Suggestions made were make it a BBQ and have it be ‘family friendly’. A discussion on the WSCA being 501C4 occurred. Kevin K. said he will look into the State rules and regulations on what we need to do to comply.
Kevin K. brought up the issue of having the WSCA Board endorse candidates. There is a clause in our Bylaws that addresses ‘endorsing’. When looking at the exact verbiage in our Bylaws, it was decided the act of endorsing was a choice and not mandatory. The Board then agreed we would hold a WSCA Presidential Straw Poll at our Thursday meeting. We’ll let the members decide who they like.
We will have our next Board Meeting Wednesday, January 04, 4:40 pm at Gary B. home.
Kevin Mc moved and Karen seconded that our meeting be adjourned. Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Peeso
WSCA Secretary
